Setting up the Atlas browser
Atlas is OpenAI's Mac browser built on Chromium. You can tailor it to your workflow by importing bookmarks and settings, organizing bookmarks, managing passwords and passkeys, and controlling third-party sign-in prompts. Menus in this guide follow standard Chromium labels; some Atlas labels may differ slightly.
Import data from another browser
You can bring your saved passwords, passwords, and browsing history over from Chrome to pick up where you left off. This won't affect your experience on Chrome.
To get started:
- Select ChatGPT Atlas at the top of your desktop window and select Import data from another browser.
- In the pop-up window, select Start import.
- Allow Keychain Access. This lets you import saved passwords from Chrome. You can remove access at any time.
- Once you have completed authentication, select Done.
Import bookmarks
Bring your browsing setup into Atlas from Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or an HTML export file.
- Open Atlas.
- Go to Settings → Manage bookmarks.
- Choose a source browser or "Bookmarks HTML file," select what to import, then import.
Where imports go: if you had no bookmarks, imports appear on the bookmarks bar; if you already had bookmarks, imports are added to the "Other bookmarks" folder. You can also export your bookmarks to an HTML file at any time.
Create, find, and organize bookmarks
Open Bookmark Manager to add, edit, sort, or delete.
- Open Atlas → More (⋯) → Bookmarks and lists → Bookmark Manager.
- Edit: hover a bookmark → More → Edit.
- Delete: select a bookmark or folder → More → Delete.
- Folders: More → Add new folder.
- Reorder: drag bookmarks or folders; you can copy and paste, too.
- Sort: use "Sort by name" in the menu, or choose other sort options in the navigation panel when available.
Imported bookmarks may be grouped under "Other bookmarks." Use Bookmark Manager to move them where you want.
Passwords and passkeys
The Password Manager for saving passwords and using passkeys (password-less sign-in secured by your device).
- Turn "Offer to save passwords and passkeys" on or off:
Settings → Passwords and autofill → Password Manager → Settings. - Automatic passkey creation on supported sites:
Settings → Passwords and autofill → Password Manager → Settings → "Automatically create a passkey to sign in faster." - "Never save" list (declined sites):
View or remove sites under "Declined sites and apps." - Auto sign-in:
Toggle "Sign in automatically" if you want a confirmation before Atlas fills credentials.
Notes: You can view and manage saved passwords and passkeys from the Password Manager. Availability of some features can be managed by your organization on managed devices.
Control third-party sign-in prompts
Some sites let you "Sign in with" an identity service (for example, a provider that handles your login across sites). You can let Atlas show these prompts or block them.
Change the setting:
Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Additional content settings → Third-party sign-in → choose Allow (optionally with "Sign in automatically") or Block.
If you block prompts, sites or identity services may still show similar prompts in-page; you can still use their regular sign-in buttons. Auto sign-in requires support from both the site and the identity service and that you've previously used that identity there.
FAQ
Where do my imported bookmarks appear?
If you had none, they show on the bookmarks bar; if you had existing bookmarks, they're added under "Other bookmarks." You can move them in the Bookmark Manager.
Can I export my Atlas bookmarks?
Yes. In Bookmark Manager, use the menu to Export Bookmarks to an HTML file.
How do I quickly tidy a large bookmark library?
Use Bookmark Manager to bulk edit, create folders, drag to reorder, and use "Sort by name."
How do I stop Atlas from offering to save passwords on a specific site?
When prompted, select Never. Later, you can remove the site from "Declined sites and apps" in Password Manager Settings.
Why am I seeing 'Sign in with…' pop-ups?
Those are third-party sign-in prompts from identity services. Manage them in Site settings → Third-party sign-in (allow, block, or allow with auto sign-in).
